Stay connected with a round-up of recent events and news from schools in the Connect family.

Eden Park Primary & Nursery School

Well done to Eva in Year 1 who was recently awarded with a special milestone wristband from Junior Parkrun for completing 11 Parkrun events, the equivalent of a half marathon!

Year 3 welcomed parents and carers into school to present their learning enquiry outcome Stone Age to Iron Age. The children shared the learning from their books and toured the visitors around the homemade artefacts in the pop-up museum. It was a very popular event with lots of positive feedback from families.

Manadon Vale Primary School

As part of their Stone Age topic, Year 3 enjoyed a trip to Kents Cavern in Torquay, one of the most important Stone Age sites in Europe. The children had a fantastic time immersing themselves into ancient civilisation by exploring the extensive labyrinth of caves and chambers.

The school had the pleasure of working with the Wacky Forest project last year, where Year 2 were given the opportunity to plant a micro forest at the local YMCA. We were extremely proud of two Year 3 pupils were recently invited back to one of their promotional events to speak in front of other guests, businesses and the Lord Mayor! Manadon Vale is hoping to be selected by the Wacky Forest organisers to plant their very own micro forest in the school grounds.

Preston Primary School

Pupils in Foundation Stage have enjoyed activities linked to The Little Red Hen book, retelling the story, and using drama to act out different scenes. Through repetition, the children can now confidently join in and recite key phrases from the story.

Each class in KS1 and KS2 have been holding hustings to vote for their class school council representative for the year. The children who wanted to be put forward wrote a speech to share with their peers, and following a vote, one representative was chosen from each class. Well done to the pupils who were successfully appointed. The school council representatives will be focusing on communication skills, gathering views, and sharing their findings, and we look forward to seeing the changes that they are going to make over the next academic year.

Thornbury Primary School

Year 2 have been using their knowledge of materials and the seasons to create their very own weather station. Together they made tools to record the rain fall, wind direction and wind speed. They also made cloud charts to see how the clouds change. Fantastic resilience and teamwork, Year 2!

Pupils across the school have been learning colour semantics, a system for colour coding sentences according to the role of different words. It can help children to break down sentences, understand the individual meaning of each word, its role in the sentence, and better understanding of word order. The younger year groups are currently studying yellow words.
